VR Game Jam 2023

Day 2 of 7

Progress from day 2 for VR Game Jam 2023. This year the theme was "special delivery". We only have 7 days to produce a game.

QuantumCourierVR: As a courier in a futuristic, quantum-computing era, your job is to deliver data packets through the neon-lit cybernetic network, but also to fight off digital threats. Along your route, malicious viruses and intrusive malware will attempt to intercept and corrupt your deliveries. You have to use your VR-controlled vehicle and integrated weaponry to fend them off and safeguard your data packets and make sure they reach tier destination.

I plan to use VRIF for the vehicle controller and vehicle weapon. The vehicle controls are all wonky so I need to fix that. I'm thinking more of a baron "Tron" like environment with emissive grid. For enemies I am using some cool creatures from Protofactor Will probably use emerald AI for the enemies as well.

Day 3 of 7

Heres what I got at the end of day 3 of 7 #VRJam2023. The theme this year was "special delivery".

Right now the Dune buggy is hard to control and I need to make it easier to brake. I Need to fix the enemy AI and animations. I need to add in the pickup areas and drop off zones with basic game logic and win conditions. I need to add UI and music. Long long ways from completion.

Im super new to VR dev so who knows how all this will turn out.

Day 5 of 7

Heres what I got at the end of day 5 of 7 #VRJam2023. The theme this year was "special delivery".

I added enemies that do damage, fixed the hand models, the wheels still slip and slide. I have a bazillion tweaks to the enemies, steering and mechanics to make. I need to add the game manager logic and win conditions. Lots to do but the good news is my kid thinks its fun and hes a tough critic LOL

Day 7 of 7 end result.

This is my first game I ever made and it was for a 7 day Game Jam contest. I didn't get to spend as much time I would of liked polishing the level, adding more enemies, better scenery, music and lighting.

I spent way too much time with the vehicle controls because the physics you would turn one setting down to make it slide less in theory but really it would slide more. So you switch it and It still slides more! Ha! I had build errors too because I waited until the end to even try. Whoops! All in all it was a blast and I learned a ton.
